CD Projekt’s Q3 Financial Report Shows Revenue Increase Thanks to the Continued Success of Their Franchises

Polish video game company CD Projekt has been having a great year so far, and it looks like they’ll continue to enjoy this success. The company has published their Quarter Three revenue earnings for 2019, and it’s quite an impressive showing. The company posted 92.9 million PLN in sales for the quarter this year with a net profit of 14.9 million PLN, a 38% revenue increase from the previous year.

There are a few factors as to why the company had such a successful quarter, but according to the Piotr Nielubowicz, the Vice President and CFO, the biggest contribution were the sales of the Nintendo Switch port of The Witcher 3: Wild HuntNielubowicz states in the report that “This is due, among others, to increased sales of The Witcher 3, first shipments of the game’s Nintendo Switch edition and an increase in revenues posted by GOG.com.”

GOG.com is also owned and operated by CD Projekt, and promotes The Witcher franchise on a regular basis. It’s possible that the Switch iteration has opened more peoples eyes to the series in general and generated more interest in the earlier versions of the game. Another reason is the re-release of their spinoff digital card game GWENT on iOS devices. According to Nielubowicz in the report, a large percentage of the game’s sales came from iOS devices, “It is worth noting that throughout the first three weeks following the launch of GWENT on iOS, 68% of revenues associated with this game came from iOS devices.”

Sales numbers weren’t the only thing that was discussed in the report. The studio’s upcoming open world game, Cyberpunk 2077was briefly mentioned by Adam Kiciński, CEO and President of CD Projekt Capital Group, “The recent months were dominated by further intensive work on Cyberpunk 2077. The game is undergoing tests, both internal and external, and we have also begun to localize its content into all supported languages. Our global promotional campaign continues apace.”

It should go without saying by now but Cyberpunk 2077 is arguably one of the most anticipated video games in history. The coverage has been extensive, and it’ll likely continue leading up to it’s release. The game is due to launch on April 16, 2020, so it makes sense that the development team is working as hard as they can to get everything ready long before then.
