Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake Reportedly in Development and Set to Release Next Year

At the beginning of the year, Capcom released the remake of Resident Evil 2 to critical and commercial success, and the game is even in contention for Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Now, it appears that Capcom is already hard at work on another remake. This time the remake in question will be the next entry in the series; Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Eurogamer has heard the remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is indeed in development from sources close to the situation, and the YouTube channel Spawn Wave has stated that the game is apparently scheduled for a 2020 release.

For those unaware, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis originally released back in September 1999 on the original PlayStation to critical success. The game sees the return of original Resident Evil character Jill Valentine as she tries to escape from Raccoon City set both before and after the events of Resident Evil 2. Unfortunately, Jill’s not alone during her escape from the city either as the newest Umbrella bio-weapon, and titular character, Nemesis is hunting her down.

As of now, Capcom has yet to make any official announcement on whether a remake Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is indeed deep into development with a planned release window of 2020 or not. Though, last year, Capcom stated they would be willing to explore the idea of remaking their backlog of games following the release of the remake of Resident Evil 2.

Capcom is also gearing up for the upcoming release of the Resident Evil multiplayer spinoff titled Project Resistance. This game is an asymmetrical multiplayer game where 4 players as they try to escape an Umbrella facility while another player controls the “Mastermind” and tries to stop the others from escaping. However, Project Resistance was met with its fair share of criticism upon its reveal.

If a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is actually set to come out next year, Capcom will most likely make an official announcement sometime soon. The Game Awards would be great place for a reveal if the game is indeed coming out soon. However, only time will tell when this remake will be coming out.
