Capcom to Debut “CAPCOM LIVE!” Rockestral Concert in March

It’s no secret that video game music has blossomed into an infinitely diverse library of compelling, awe-inspiring, or just plain catchy tunes over the years. The fact that major video game companies and professional orchestras alike pick up classic genre songs and re-imagine them through high-fidelity instruments proves that beloved video game music is a highly flexible platform, and that it can bond like-minded fans from across the world for emotional and promotional purposes. This Sunday’s “Piano Opera: Music from Final Fantasy,” for example, is but the latest in Square Enix’s long-running series of Final Fantasy-themed orchestral concerts.

Capcom has evidently realized this as well. Last night, the Japanese gaming giant announced that starting March 26 in Beijing, a “rockestral” concert titled “Capcom Live!” will begin touring around the world. In the event’s official press release, Capcom stated that the concerts will feature live performances from more than ten different hit Capcom titles, all of which will be accompanied by HD visuals:

At Capcom Live! attendees can enjoy live performances of game music from more than ten Capcom masterpieces dating from the 1980s up through the present day, all completely synchronized to HD visuals. In addition to the performance of ‘Video Game Orchestra’—a group that combines rock and orchestral music into ‘rockestral’ concerts and boasts high notoriety in the US—the tour will pursue sophisticated entertainment via staging that weaves together visual effects and specialized lighting. This tour differs from events that have targeted only gamers by bringing to life a forward-thinking musical project that can engage music fans and general audiences as well.

The event is a part of Capcom’s “Single Content, Multiple Usage” strategy. Its goal is to achieve greater brand name penetration (in layman’s terms, spreading the Capcom name around) through media beyond the company’s video games themselves.

Utilizing its Single Content, Multiple Usage strategy, Capcom will continue to pursue a multifaceted approach in leveraging its portfolio of brands, with the aim of maximizing the value of its IPs and creating new opportunities for revenue while working to further enhance its performance.
