It’s hard to believe now but one of Capcom’s IPs is now ten years old. Dragon’s Dogma is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and to commemorate this, Capcom has launched special website for the title. The company also tweeted this out with a special message while also asking the fans to “join us in this momentous celebration” of the IP. Considering that diehard fans of the title have been clamoring for a sequel, and the company has made little to no mention of one since 2019, this is sure to set the rumor mill aflame with talks of the long-awaited new entry in the series.
It also begs the question as to why Capcom is putting quite a bit of effort into celebrating essentially a 10 year dormant title. In fact, Capcom has basically done more than bring an actual sequel to light for this series, which in and of itself is quite an oddity. It’s received an MMORPG spinoff that was released exclusively in Japan, and even an original animated series that was on Netflix. Yet in 2022 there is no sequel for Dragon’s Dogma, something that perplexed the fanbase to no extent. Perhaps not all hope is lost though as there’s still that famous NVIDIA leak from last year that contained list of unannounced IPs, one of which was Dragon’s Dogma 2. Street Fighter 6 was also on that list and that announcement has come to pass, so hopefully, Capcom is preparing us for something more exciting in the foreseeable future.
Dragon’s Dogma originally released in May 2022 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was billed as a third-person action JRPG that contained several elements and features from many notable franchises. This includes Dark Souls, Shadow of the Colossus, Monster Hunter, and Devil May Cry. The game was well received and developed a fan following in the process. Capcom released an updated version dubbed Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen which contained all of the previously released DLC and some brand new content. This version would eventually be ported to PC and the Nintendo Switch, as well as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which means that it’s also backwards compatible with the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
