The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Release Date Revealed for September 1

Fans of the Lord of The Rings series will finally be able to experience Middle-earth from the perspective of a certain ring-obsessed creature when The Lord of the Rings: Gollum releases this fall. According to a tweet made today by German developer Daedalic Entertainment, players can begin the quest for their precious on September 1 on PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Xbox consoles. The game will also be available for Nintendo Switch later in the year.

Gollum is a stealth-based action-adventure game created by Daedalic Entertainment in part with NACON and Middle-earth Enterprises. It places players in the shoes (or rather, soles) of its namesake, a hobbit turned feral by his obsession with the One Ring, the series’ plot MacGuffin. The game specifically takes place during the first chapters of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, and follows Gollum after losing his ring to Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit. As revealed by Daedalic today, players must make choices throughout the game that either appeal to Gollum’s violent tendencies or his former self’s more passive nature.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was first announced during the 2021 Game Awards with a cinematic reveal trailer, which depicted a notably redesigned Gollum ranting to himself and stealthily taking out heavily-armed orcs. Daedalic has since teased the impending release date with screenshots of locations that players will be able to visit in the game, such as Mirkwood and Mordor.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is currently available to wishlist on its Steam store page, where those interested can also find additional trailers, screenshots, and F.A.Qs by the developers.
