Capcom Announces Post-Launch Plans for Resident Evil 2 With New Costumes and Mode

After the success of Monster Hunter: World, it would seem Capcom’s rollout of quality titles isn’t stopping anytime soon. The first big, triple A release of 2019 comes in the form of Resident Evil 2, a complete remake of the beloved original that released for the PlayStation in 1998. Following successful demo run, the new version has picked up critical acclaim days before its release, and is shaping up to be the first blockbuster hit of the new year as well.

To celebrate its launch, Capcom held a special livestream event for the game, where a couple of notable announcements were made. As reported by Siliconera, the stream revealed two post-launch additions to the game that will come as free updates. First, Leon and Claire will hop back in time and resume their original lower-res, polygonal selves with the new Leon ’98 and Claire ’98 alternative costumes. Capcom stated that the new cosmetics will release for everyone on March 22, 2019.

Next, and perhaps most substantial, is the announcement of a brand-new game mode called The Ghost Survivors. According to the report, the mode offers new perspectives of the story’s transpired events, allowing players to take on the roles of minor characters in the game. Siliconera also notes that the mode might be episodic and random in nature, with the first episode setting up Robert Kendo, the owner of Raccoon City’s Kendo Gun Shop, as one of the playable characters, along with Katherine Warren, the daughter of Raccoon City’s mayor, Michael Warren.

Furthermore, points that players earn from this mode may be used to purchase in-game items in some capacity, though details regarding The Ghost Survivors are almost nonexistent. More information regarding the post-launch content will probably be announced after the game officially launches.

The reimagined Resident Evil 2 arrives on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC January 25, 2019.
