Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II Had the Biggest Launch in Franchise History, Sells More Than $800 Million in Three Days

It looks like Activision’s latest entry in the long running and wildly successful Call of Duty franchise is just that, another huge success. The publisher revealed recently that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II has exceeded expectations, raking in massively insane $800 million in just the first three days alone. With that new sales number, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II had the biggest launch in franchise history, easily usurping the previous launch sales king of the series, 2011’s Modern Warfare 3.

Keep in mind that these sales numbers also include any and all pre-orders before the game actually launched. This also included any digital pre-orders, which as you can see in the tweet above, gave the title the highest digital sales launch record for the entire franchise. As we already mentioned, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 held the title of biggest launch for the series back in 2011. That title held the top of the rank with $775 million in sales in under five days. In less than three days since it launched this year, Modern Warfare II trounced those numbers.

On the flip side to this momentous occasion, it’s also not that surprising to see people come out and purchase what is arguably one of the more anticipated entries in franchise history. The follow up to the well received 2019 Modern Warfare, fans have been eagerly waiting to see how the reboot story continued, as well as the ever popular multiplayer which also launched Warzone, the battle royale mode which essentially acts as a separate game altogether.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is available now for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC.
