Blizzard announced today the second iteration of their Nexus Challenge, a challenge event that encourages Overwatch players to check out Heroes of the Storm by giving in-game playtime rewards in both games for playing Heroes of the Storm with friends.
Heroes of the Storm ran the first Nexus Challenge in November of last year, rewarding players for playing 15 or more games in HotS with the “Oni” skin and cosmetics for Genji in Overwatch, as well as unlocking Zarya and other heroes in HotS. With Heroes of the Storm being free to play, players could easily download the game and link it to the same account they use for Overwatch, racking up those sweet unlocks with little trouble.
This new challenge, aptly titled Nexus Challenge 2.0, follows a similar format to the first, offering in-game rewards for both Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm for playing 5 games of HotS with a friend each week for a four-week period. This challenge offers another chance to win the Genji “Oni” skin from the previous Nexus challenge, as well as new unlockables including a new “Officer D.Va” skin and new HotS mounts.
There are different unlocks available each new week of the challenge, so keep playing throughout the challenge to ensure you get them all:
- Week 1 – Oni Genji skin, icon and spray in Overwatch; Oni Genji portrait, spray, Orochi Hovercycle mount and banner in Heroes of the Storm (Players can also earn these items in matches against the game’s AI.)
- Week 2 – Officer D.Va skin in Overwatch; Busan Police Hovercycle mount in Heroes of the Storm
- Week 3 – Officer D.Va icon and spray in Overwatch; Overwatch Nexagon mount and Officer D.Va portrait, spray and banner in Heroes of the Storm
- Week 4 – 10 loot boxes for both Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm
The Nexus Challenge 2.0 comes just as Heroes of the Storm 2.0 officially goes live, having been in beta since late March this year. Heroes 2.0 brings some major overhauls to the game, bringing many changes to the game including new UI, new in-game currencies, and a new progression system; it also brings the newest playable hero from the beta to the full game: Genji, the cyborg ninja (who, coincidentally, also comes originally from Overwatch).
