Blizzard Announces a Heroes of the Storm 2018 Gameplay Update

Earlier today at BlizzCon 2017, Blizzard announced the next two characters coming to Heroes of the Storm: Hanzo from Overwatch, and Alexstraza from World of Warcraft. Alexstraza offers “versatile ranged support who manipulates her life energy to heal her allies,” and can transform into a dragon with her ‘Dragon Queen’ ability. Hanzo’s hero page, meanwhile, describes him as “a skillful Assassin who deals tremendous damage from long range.”

Additionally, the game will be receiving several general improvements to its stealth system, a completely new camera, and a new event, Dragons of the Nexus. The multiplayer online battle arena will also be getting voice chat, performance-based matchmaking in its 2018 update; the new matchmaking system will increase accuracy “by taking your individual performance and contributions into account after each match, rather than relying solely on victory or defeat.”

The update won’t be out until 2018 and Blizzard has promised more details to follow soon. In the meantime, you can watch Heroes of the Storm’s BlizzCon announcement trailer below.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
