BioWare has decided to “honor” their past franchise, Mass Effect, for N7 Day with some special themed skins in their current title Anthem. Starting today, you can purchase these cosmetics for your Javelins, each of which have different aesthetics from the lore of Mass Effect.
The Ranger has the Turian skin, which looks a lot like fan favorite Garrus Vakarian, while the Storm skin is Asari-based where it is reminiscent of another popular characters armor, Liara T’soni. The Collossus skin gets the Krogan armor and the Interceptor receives the Quarian skin respectively, going off of the Blood Pack from Mass Effect 2 and everyone’s favorite masked alien Tali Zora nor Rayaa. Each skin costs 61,000 coins, or 850 shards, which equals roughly $8 in real life. On top of that, you can get a brand new emote called the Shepard Shuffle which is based off of Commander Shepard’s terrible dance that he/she always tries to make look cool at dance parties.
The last entry in the series was Mass Effect Andromeda and we all know how that turned out. The game was an absolute mess when it launched in 2017, filled with numerous bugs and glitches that broke the game in nearly every aspect. Once this mishap took place, EA officially stopped all Mass Effect projects and put the series on indefinite hold.
BioWare had another chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of the fans with Anthem, but it’s been seriously bad situation. Ever since the game launched it’s been plagued with seemingly never-ending problems such as under-performing in sales, delaying the game’s first major event well after it was supposed to release, and the game’s developers leaving to work on other projects or departing the studio altogether.
N7 Day is meant for all of the fans to come together and celebrate the legacy that Mass Effect created. For those who don’t know, N7 is the designated number for specially chosen members of the Systems Alliance Navy to be trained at the highest echelon of military prowess. It’s a distinct honor, one that Commander Shepard, your character, is already a part of when you start up the first Mass Effect. From there, Shepard climbs the ranks to become the first ever human Spectre, and their journey defines not only how you enjoy the experience, but it was also a reflection of how much sweat and tears went into making it in the first place.
While we wait on BioWare to potentially try something new with our beloved characters, let us remember the unforgettable campaign that Shepard and their crew embarked on with the Normandy. Whether it’s taking down Saren in the first title, searching for the Collectors in the second one, or ending an insanely long war in the third game, today we celebrate everything Mass Effect. BioWare is posting tweets every now and then today with some of their favorite memories from the series, which you can check out here.
