After a couple of years of waiting, THQ Nordic has finally announced that the much-anticipated RPG, Biomutant, is set to release in the next financial year, so sometime after April of 2021. It was first announced in Germany at Gamescom in 2017 and other than some sporadic updates in 2018, THQ Nordic has been relatively silent about the progress of the game until now. It has already been delayed a couple of times as it was originally supposed to release back in 2019, then mid-2020.
This news was released in an exclusive interview GamesIndustry.biz held with publishers, THQ Nordic, discussing the acquisition of Purple Lamp, an Austrian video game developer, and purchases of licenses. Klemens Kreuzer, the CEO of THQ Nordic, describes Biomutant as “a release of great importance.”
Biomutant is an open-world, post-apocalyptic RPG where players will control a customizable mutant animal, which sort of resembles a cat, and explore the world that has been destroyed by a massive oil spill and follow branching storylines in order to revitalize the Tree of Life. In combat, players can expect a kung-fu martial arts style as well as the mutant abilities their customizable character will give them. A big selling point for Biomutant is the insane open world that developers, Experiment 101, have created for players to explore, scavenge, and fight these unique, colorful monsters that are roaming around. As you can tell in the 2020 gameplay trailer linked above, there are a lot of things to find in the world to look forward to and be excited for.
When released, Biomutant will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
