While some FPS games stuck purely to the heart of the genre with simple infantry combat, others branch out into battles involving larger vehicles. It is no surprise that given the scale of Battlefield 6, the game would inevitably add naval combat in one of the seasons. With the release of the Season 4 trailer, the time to use the sea and ships to the player’s advantage is quickly approaching.
The trailer starts off with a fierce battle on the water using a combination of smaller and larger boats which the video description identifies as the RCB-90 Patrol Boat and the 7.7m NSW RHIB. Soon, air forces join the battle, and the boats reach the shore, leading to all-out carnage across every aspect of the warzone. The entire conflict takes place on the largest map introduced to the game so far, Tsuru Reef. According to the Battlefield 6 roadmap, Wake Island will also make a reappearance later in the season. These new maps were made with the intention of bringing the action of naval combat closer to the battles happening on the ground, keeping it from feeling like a separate map. This can be seen more clearly in the trailer, where boats can move at incredible speeds and can launch devastating missiles onto the mainland.
The description for the Season 4 trailer also promises new weapons coming with the update, including the long-range Interdictor sniper rifle. Some of the other features coming with Season 4 according to the roadmap include proximity chat, and iterations on the features and rewards of the Ranked Battle Royale system introduced in Season 3.
Offering new ways to fight in an FPS not only gives players options, but also creates more dynamic battles. Players will have a chance to see how the new naval combat and content additions will shape the gameplay when Season 4 of Battlefield 6 launches July 21st.
