Bandai Namco Reveals New Character in Latest Code Vein Trailer

A new trailer for Bandai Namco’s upcoming action JRPG, Code Vein, dropped today in both English and Japanese. Following the character reveal trailer for Mia Karstein a couple days ago, the latest showcase introduces players to Yakumo Shionome. As a former soldier, the loyal Yakumo is on a quest to search for his former companions, who he considers family. Armed with a weapon called the Hounds Blood Veil, the new companion seems to be a reliable addition to the party as he slashes his way across the land of Vein.

The English version of the trailer dropped shortly after the Japanese one, and showcases the voice actor in both the North American and European versions of the game. The increase in frequency of released info most likely means Bandai Namco is gearing up for the last stretch of marketing before the full game drops this fall.

Code Vein is an action RPG that has a combat system similar to that of the Dark Souls series. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, players control characters that are part of a secret vampire society called the Revenant. Much like the games from where it draws influence, Code Vein thrusts players into an unforgiving and daunting environment, where survival depends on carefully coordinated dodges and attacks. From the various gameplay trailers shown, combat primarily revolves around real-time, dynamic duels, though just like traditional RPGs, your party is there for support.

Naturally, Code Vein is a lot flashier and more colorful than its western counterparts. While games like Bloodborne and the Souls series went for a dark and gloomy medieval setting, Code Vein opted for a more anime-like aesthetic. The character and weapon designs, story, and world-building all adhere to traditional themes of Japanese animation.

Code Vein is set to release on September 27 in Japan, and launches September 28 in the West for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
