Asterix and Friends Launches on iOS and Android

A mobile game based around the French comic book Asterix launches today. Asterix and his band of indomitable Gauls bring their struggle against Roman occupation to the world of mobile gaming with Asterix and Friends. The game is published by Bandai Namco and developed by Austrian company, Sproing. Originally a web game, Asterix and Friends gained over 2 million players and has now officially made the leap by launching on its mobile platform today.

Asterix and Friends puts the player on control of the Gaul village. Asterix and Friends is essentially a real time strategy game with more of a cartoony aesthetic to it. They can build their own village, explore, and form alliances and build their own guilds to help fight against the Roman Empire. Players make their way through various Roman legions and environments in the various quests the game has to offer. The challenging campaigns and quests are all built around the humor of the comic. The game will include characters such as: the titular Asterix, Obelix, and Dogmatix, among others. This mobile version of the web game will include all the content of the original. There is also a cross play option for those who were already playing the web version of the game and want to take their adventures on the go, or vice versa. Some screen shots from the game can be seen below.

Asterix and Friends also has events throughout the year to keep players interested. There is going to be an in game event for Halloween and another for Winter, that takes place from November to January, as well. These events will include special recipes, items, temporary characters, quests and achievements. Essentially these events are a way to provide the players with new content. The players of the game have been a concern for the developers and publishers. As Massimo Caporale, Producer and Product Owner at Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe put it, “the fantastic feedback received by players has really helped us shape the game and improve it.” A gameplay trailer for Asterix and Friends can be seen below.

Asterix and Friends is available for Apple and Android devices and can be downloaded here and here, respectively.  The official website for Asterix and Friends can be seen here.
