Released last year and introducing many new ideas into the series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been steadily adding onto the core game through small updates sent out over the past year. Now, the game has announced its final major content drop with the upcoming update, promising the wrap up the story of the characters with a final quest that unlocks after the main story is finished.
In the video announcing the update, associate director Simon greets the audience and introduces the final story update titled “Black Tides”, alluding to the potential similarities between it and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The new chapter is set to end story of both Naoe and Yasuke with a fight against Black Cross, a pair of elite Templars with mysterious goals. The new content will only become available after all other story content is complete, emphasizing the finality of the quest. As he finishes explaining the new story, the lights go out and reveal a clip of a character gliding toward blue doorway.
The other major addition in the final update that has been revealed is Domains. The new Animus-bending activity is meant as a test for late-game builds and features five arenas with ten difficulty settings. Due to modifiers added specially for each arena, different builds will perform better in each. The new system also includes new items and a new progression system that allows players to purchase Animus exploits. Finally, he hints at new outfits from Assassin’s Creed Black Flag that players will be able to wear after the drop.
The video ends with a heartfelt send-off to the game and the fans. Although Assassin’s Creed Shadows is releasing the last of its content, the series shows no signs of slowing down due to the wealth of features announced. The final update and the Black Tides quest will be available on June 16th.
