After many rumors, leaks, and unofficial, official announcements, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has finally been revealed. 13 years after the original game’s release, Ubisoft says that Resynced is faithful recreation of Black Flag, enhanced in the latest version of the Anvil Engine featuring many improvements and new content. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launches on July 9, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and will be available for streaming on NVIDIA Geforce Now and Blacknut.
As with the original, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced focuses on the story of Edward Kenway on his journey from privateer to skilled Assassin and his fight against the Templars. New to Resynced will be new Officers that players can locate and assign to the Jackdaw. Each has their own unique questline and brings a special ability to naval combat when they get assigned. There are also additional missions and new scenes with original Edward voice actor Matt Ryan, and the original cast.
Playas have been reworked, offering new rewards and unique encounters on islands across the map. There are more customization options for the Jackdaw, including new skins and the all-new ship’s pets that lets players bring along a cat or monkey companion while they sail. Kenway’s Fleet has also been reworked, allowing players to use captured ships to generate passive income through rare activies and trading. 10 new sea shanties have been added in addition to the ones from the original.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been built from the ground up of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, which was used for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. With the new engine, the world of Black Flag features raytraced lighting with global illumination (RTGI) and reflections, optimized performance with 60 fps options on consoles, graphics assets built from the ground up to support Micropolygon and Physically Based Rendering (PBR) pipelines, and fully modernized water rendering and simulation.
Combat has also been reworked from the ground up and includes new visceral takedowns, new parrying mechanics, quick-fire rope dart and pistol moves, and a new enemy archetype – the Demolitionist. New and enhanced stealth gameplay features include an Observe mode which extends Edward’s Eagle Vision, the ability to crouch and dive anywhere which lets Edward lower his profile anywhere on land, and stealthly approach seafront locations and ships. Shadows and low light will also affect Edward’s visibility during stealth sequences.
New secondary weapons including shrapnel barrels which explode and damage enemy sails, and 8-pounders which open up more weakpoints in enemy ship hulls have been added to naval combat. Enemy ships and factions have also been reworked to add different equipment depending on their alliances.
Enhanced parkour moves have been added such as the manual jump, side ejects, height-gaining back ejects, and quicker interrupts, between parkour moves. Dynamic weather and objects are also a big factor in the world with destructible objects reacting to weather and combat. signs wukk move and shift with the wind, sails billow and blow, coconuts roll across the ground in a storm, and objects will break when enemies are thrown against them.
