Among Us Causes Major Spike in Discord Downloads

As Among Us gains popularity among streamers, fans, and casual gamers alike, it is also the cause of large spike in Discord downloads. With Adam Blacker’s (the VP of the data company Apptopia) recent observation, “Discord has been hitting a new lifetime high for mobile app downloads every day since September 5th” (which was then discovered to be around 800,000 installs a day). Totaling all of those downloads since the beginning of August together, Among Us has been downloaded a total of 74 million times on iOS and Android with an estimated generation of $4.5 million USD in revenue due to in-app purchases. The downloads for both Among Us and Discord were particularly high in the US, which totaled in 18.8 percent of the Among Us downloads and 21.5% of the Discord downloads.

With its hours being watched rising total of 650%, the game’s large popularity out of nowhere has also caused the sequel to be canceled in order for the developers to focus more on updating and keeping up with the first game. According to the developer, InnerSloth’s, latest report, the game has hit an all-time new high of 1.5 million concurrent players since its large spike (and totaling towards more than 85 million players in the last six months). These numbers. look like they might see another rise again as popular streamers such as Jacksepticeye and Markiplier have started their own series dedicated to the multiplayer game.

When thought about though, Discord’s rise in popularity goes hand in hand with the sudden jump in Among Us downloads. As the game needs a voice and video chat option in order to be played properly, the murder mystery role-playing game features a bunch of crewmates on a spaceship as they try to find the imposter. For those that are chosen as the imposter, their job is to kill every member on the ship without being figured out.
