4A Games Announces Metro Exodus Will Get Enhancements for Next-Gen Systems, New Metro Title in Development

4A Games has announced a couple of major updates as part of their 10th Anniversary celebration. The studio revealed that they are currently working on bringing their critically acclaimed title, Metro Exodus, to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/Series S. In addition, these enhanced ports will be available to anyone who already owns the title on either the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as a free upgrade. On top of that, 4A Games also announced that they have officially started development on the next entry in the Metro franchise.

The studio states in their update that the details for the Metro Exodus enhancements are not confirmed as of yet. However, they do mention that we should look forward to “faster frame rate, increased resolution, reduced loading times, and stunning Ray Tracing features made possible by the new hardware.” Considering how some last-generation titles are performing on the newer hardware, this is an exciting prospect, especially since Metro Exodus is a technical marvel to behold in its open world. 4A did not mention a release date but did state that the enhanced port will launch sometime in 2021.

As for the new Metro title, 4A says that it will be developed for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC. The studio also states that they will be overhauling their game engine in order to fully utilize the hardware of the new home consoles, which fully supports ray tracing. Along with creating a brand new single-player campaign, 4A also says that want to incorporate a “multiplayer experience with the help of Saber Interactive. They didn’t go further into this as they are “still figuring things out.” Still, the idea of a multiplayer Metro title has us excited, to say the least.
