Dragon’s Dogma II has debuted its first gameplay footage during Sony’s PlayStation Showcase today. The sequel to Capcom’s 2012 Dragon’s Dogma, was first revealed during a 10 year anniversary livestream last year celebrating the decade old title. In a PlayStation Blog post announcing the gameplay trailer for Dragon’s Dogma II, PlayStation states, “The first title in the Dragon’s Dogma series initially launched in 2012. It gained popularity as a one-of-a-kind action-RPG thanks to its polished action and combat, as well as a unique system that made the player feel as if accompanied by others through pawns, mysterious otherworldly beings. Dragon’s Dogma 2 follows in its footsteps elevating these elements further to create a truly immersive fantasy world for your adventures ahead.”
The single-player action RPG has players fighting monsters in the fantasy world of Gransys, using melee and ranged weaponry including magick spells. While the game was not massive at launch, nor sustained any wide array of critical success in sales since its release in 2012, it did retain a cult following of fans who praised the combat, gameplay systems and boss fights.
Dragon’s Dogma II follows the player’s created hero known as the Arisen, waking in a subterranean jail, their heart been stolen by a dragon. The Arisen is put on a quest to retrieve their heart and thus defeat the dragon, though along their vast journey they encounter various enemies, factions, and forming alliances with allies. In a press release detailing the gorgeous world and gameplay Capcom writes, “Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life. Both your party of Pawns and enemies alike will react dynamically to your actions on the battlefield, whether you cling to the backs of monsters or seek to dispatch them from afar.”
Currently there’s no release date for Dragon’s Dogma II.
