Zombie Driver Launches Xbox-Exclusive Ultimate Edition

Developer Exor Studios announced the release of an “ultimate edition” of their top-down vehicular combat game, Zombie Driver. The ultimate edition includes all the DLC packages ever released for Zombie Driver since its launch in 2009, some with additional content beyond the original DLC pack, “plus a new pack of car skins that hasn’t been released on any other platform” according to the game’s official website. While the original game is available on Windows PCs, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Android devices including the Ouya console, the ultimate edition will be an Xbox One exclusive release due to publishing deal struck by Exor Studios through the ID@XBOX program in the wake of the 2012 bankruptcy of the game’s original publisher, Cyberfront.

The core gameplay of Zombie Driver centers around driving one of fifteen different vehicles around a city infested with hostile zombies. The game offers three different modes: a single-player campaign in which the player is given objectives to complete, bosses to defeat, or passengers to transport across the city, “blood race” in which players can race around a zombie-infested track, and “slaughter mode,” an endurance round in which the player faces off against endless waves of zombies in an arena. Players can then use the cash they earn by winning games to purchase upgrades for their vehicle in the form of improvements to speed and handling, chassis reinforcements, weapons, and cosmetic customizations. Zombie Driver also supports player modding. Exor Studios has released development kits for gameplay mods as well as custom car and weapon development in addition to their own officially supported mod, the Darkness Mod, which makes the player rely on their headlights to see while driving.

In addition to the expanded DLC content, the ultimate edition also promises to improve on Zombie Driver’s gameplay and graphics. The Exor Studios team has “more than doubled the number of zombies roaming the streets,” adding in an equal number of weapons and upgrades scattered about the city to make fighting for survival a more dynamic experience. The list of graphical upgrades includes the addition of dynamic soft shadows, depth fog, environmental reflections, and improvements to the game’s textures, animations, and ambient lighting. The ultimate edition also features a “retro camera,” which allows players to use an entirely top-down perspective as opposed to the slight angle used in the game by default.

Zombie Driver: Ultimate Edition is available now on the Xbox One Games Store for $15. If you’re interested, you can watch the trailer below or on YouTube.
