“Birds of a feather flock together” is an ancient turn of phrase that nobody quotes anymore but it constantly proves to be true, and in a hilarious recent example in an interview with IGN, Yoko Taro creator of the highly acclaimed Nier series as well as the cult favorite Drakengard, has come out to proclaim his utter love and support for SHIFT UP Corporation’s massively hyped and upcoming release Stellar Blade.
Stellar Blade is a really amazing game. I’d say that it’s much better than NieR:Automata. I have been acquainted with Mr. Kim’s works since Magna Carta: Tears of Blood. Your illustrations are of a very high quality. Magna Carta: Tears of Blood came out before Drakengard, the first game I directed. So while I’m the older one, to me, in this industry you’re my senior.
It’s been somewhat of a meme online to pit Stellar Blade against Nier: Automata, both being games with attractive female leads front and center, so for Yoko Taro himself to come out and say that he enjoys Stellar Blade, and in fact thinks it’s better than Nier: Automata says a lot about both the quality of the game as well as the professionalism behind the scene regardless of what the fans in front say and think. The full interview is very interesting and I highly recommend anyone interested in Stellar Blade give it a look.
If anyone knows anything about narrative driven action games it would be Yoko Taro, so no doubt SHIFT UP is more than happy to accept this glowing review on Stellar Blade as a feather in their cap. If you also hold Yoko Taro’s opinion in high regard then look forward to Stellar Blade’s full release later this month on April 26th, 2024. It will be available exclusively for the Playstation 5.
