X & Y: Did We Run Out Of Colors for Pokémon?

As has been announced within their E3 schedule, Nintendo is due to have a special Pokémon X & Y Presentation/Q&A at one of the roundtables following their Nintendo Direct presentation. This presentation is to run on June 11th at 6pm Pacific time within the E3 halls and will last 90 minutes. It is to be run by Junichi Masuda and Tsunekazu Ishihara, the president of The Pokémon Company.

Pokémon X & Pokémon Y are the first Generation VI Pokémon games, coming for the Nintendo 3DS worldwide in October 2013.

These games are the first to include a real 3D world and 3D battles, utilizing 3D models in amazing battle environments. The world also is completely 3D, while keeping grid based movement.

It introduces a variety of new Pokémon including Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie, the new starter Pokémon and Pokémon X stars the legendary Pokémon Xerneas while Pokémon Y features the Pokémon Yveltal. The addition of the new Pokémon takes the number of Pokémon over to well above 700. Nintendo just likes to rub it in our faces that we are destined to never truly “catch ’em all.”

The games are set within the Kalos region, a large region which has a Regional Pokédex split into three parts, Central, Coastal and Mountain. In the game, you start off as a trainer, being able to customize the appearance between three different options for each of the genders. There are a variety of new features involved including being able to ride certain Pokémon within certain areas.

This game also introduces the idea of Trainer Customization, allowing you to not only pick your trainer’s hair color and skin-tone from three options, but to completely customize your trainer’s outfit and accessories.

A little fun aside, it’s been tradition that Pokémon games released on Nintendo’s more mobile consoles be named after a color. Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, Black, and White to be more specific. Did we run out of colors here that we had to move on to the alphabet? What’s to be the future of game naming for this series? Kitchen appliances? We can only wait and see.
