Windrose Sells 2 Million Copies In 1 Month

Windrose, the indie pirate game that has taken the world by storm and continues to top the Steam charts, from passing 1.5 million in wishlists, to selling 1 million copies and having 200,00 concurrent players on Steam in 6 days. Windrose has been nothing short of big success, not only for pirate games but for indie games, as the team behind it, Kraken Express, is an indie studio based in Uzbekistan. And now, from April 14 to May 14, Windrose has officially sold 2 million copies in 1 month to the exact date.

Pirate games have been dormant for long time, with many wanting a pirate game to reach the heights of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, a game synonymous with the best pirate games. Well, here we are in 2026, and an indie studio has done what many people have been asking for, and that’s to release a good pirate game, and with how things are going for the game, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, in terms of popularity. And the devs are watching as they released a statement on Steam for the new milestone: “When we first set sail, we could only hope that our game would find such a passionate and dedicated community. Seeing so many of you exploring the seas, sharing your stories, creating content, reporting issues, and supporting us every step of the way means more than we can properly express.” They also go on to say they are watching its players and all that they share in the community, and are happy for this special moment.

“Thank you again, captains. This milestone is a new beginning for us, for the game, and for the community we’re building together. We are deeply touched by your support and will continue working hard to make this adventure worthy of your time and passion.”

With the current climate for gaming, indie games are much needed, and seeing one succeed to the degree Windrose has is fantastic. It’s even more impressive that the game is currently in early access with an unknown release date, so the fact that this early access is so successful is great. With more content and updates, the game will continue to sail off to new horizons and plunder milestones as it continues its journey, so why not join in and experience all the swashbuckling? The game, as mentioned before, is currently still in early access, but why not give it a try? You can get the game right now on Steam and see for yourself what all the hype is about.

Jorge Peredo: Growing up, I've always been fascinated by storytelling, whether through reading, watching, or playing video games. Having been exposed to storytelling for so long, I have been influenced, and through that influence, I seek to write and create my own stories that others can enjoy and that I can be proud of.
