Flying Rat Studio has announced Pit Panic, roguelike 2D platformer, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG. The game was unveiled on May 15, 2026 alongside a debut gameplay trailer, with a July 2026 release window listed on Steam. The studio has confirmed a free Steam demo dropping at midnight Prague time on May 26, 2026.
Players control a curious archaeologist working their way out of a sinking Aztec temple. The setup is simple: make your way upward for survival. Each run sends the protagonist deep into the ruin, and getting back out could mean trading health in exchange for important power-ups. The main campaign is listed at four-plus hours. The hook is the main traveling mechanic. The studio calls it an “omnitool” on the Steam page. It tunnels through blocks, swings the protagonist across gaps, and pulls open hidden loot. The surrounding blocks can be manipulated and interacted with. Some examples include turning sand into glass, jelly into fire and bridges into weapons .
Four named biomes are confirmed in the press kit. Buried Grounds runs through narrow passages and pressure traps. Flooded District combines water, fire, and vertical climbing. Excavation Site is built around mechanical relics and stone carvings, with faster and riskier lines. Overgrown Ruins hides its climbing paths and enemies under heavy growth, with hard choices to make. Across those four biomes, the official site lists over 1,000 hand-crafted stages that the studio shuffles on each run, and players can design custom stages to share with others. There are two playable characters at launch. Once a run is cleared, Pit Panic shifts toward leaderboards and daily challenges that pay out rewards.
Pit Panic is available to wishlist now on Steam, with the free demo set for May 26 and the full launch slated for July 2026.
