Today is finally the day. After being announced for last week, subsequently postponed due to the civil unrest happening in the United States, then being reannounced for today, Sony is finally set to unveil games for their upcoming new console, the PlayStation 5. The Future of Gaming event is set to be
In regards to the event and the PlayStation 5, Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said: “With each generation, from the first PlayStation to PlayStation 4, we aim higher and we push the boundaries further, to try and deliver better experiences for our community. This has been the mission of the PlayStation brand for more than 25 years. A mission I have been a part of nearly since the beginning. There are few things as exciting as the launch of a new console. While this road to launch has been a bit…different, we are as thrilled as ever to bring you with us on this journey to redefine the future of video games. We’ve shared technical specifications and shown you the new DualSense wireless controller. But what is a launch without games?”
This is the biggest event in regards to the PlayStation 5 as Sony has been leading up to this event all year. Earlier this year, Sony debuted the logo for the PS5 at CES. Following this, Mark Cerny gave a deep dive on the tech of the console. Then, just a few short months ago the controller, the DualSense, was revealed. Recently, a patent showcasing the possible features of the PS5 UI surfaced as well.
It is currently unknown what exactly will be shown off at the event. Though nothing is confirmed, there will be a major focus on games coming to PlayStation 5. Fans most likely won’t see games such as The Last of Us Part II or Ghost of Tsushima as they both recently had major State of Play events focused on them. One game many are hopeful to see are a potential sequel to Guerilla’s Horizon Zero Dawn.
However, the biggest questions that are on everyone’s mind though are will the console actually be revealed and how much will it cost. Only time will tell what exactly will be unveiled, however, we’re just a few short hours away from finding out.
