Warlander Teases New Gameplay

About a minute of new gameplay has been teased by Clock Drive Games’ upcoming title, Warlander. This game will put revenge, supernatural deities, and sword play combat at the player’s fingertips in an age-long conflict between the Old Gods and the evolving Techno Order. With another short glimpse at the third-person game, which feels like its release is approaching much too slowly, we are able to see how the unique combat system will work in a fight. Check out that gameplay here:

Warlander asks the player “Would you sell your soul for vengeance” and serve the immortal for power? Players will step into the role of a resurrected hero who only has revenge in mind. The precise and sharp slicing and movement shown above is a good sneak-peak of what we will see in Clock Drive’s uniquely structured stamina-based combat. But warriors will have more than just a blade to chop through an array of monsters, also wielding different sets of abilities that can be useful in specific situations.

The reason that Clock Drive is calling Warlander’s combat system unique is because of the high skill it will take to master. Fights will use a “precise targeting and tactical approach” to locate weak points during close-quarters skirmishes. Aiming your blows at weakened or exposed areas on an enemy will be rewarded with heightened damage and punishing finishes. An accurate description of this combat would be dismemberment with swords similar to lightsabers.

Still in an alpha state of play, the abilities mentioned above refer to a skill tree progression system that will be in place to improve sword play and other aspects of battle. This progression will be tied directly to the game world, being fully dependent on where players are and what they are fighting. By killing enemies or slicing them up into sacrifices, players can upgrade different sets of powers. The “interactive environment is a battlefield itself and a weapon.” Observant players will be able to fight more creatively and use their surroundings to pummel anything standing in their way.

Warlander is planning on an Early 2020 release on the Steam Store and eventually consoles, though the devs haven’t come out and stated a specific date yet.
