In a rather curiously timed move, given current events, Russian developer Gaijin Entertainment have put out an impressive live action trailer for their MMO War Thunder.
The trailer depicts the battle between the German and Russian army during World War II and features impressive CG effects, as soldiers on both sides wage a surprisingly bloodless battle against one another:
The press release states that the trailer “commemorates the heroism of all the participants of the Great Patriotic War ,” a jingoistic term used in Russia and former Soviet republics to reference the four year campaign between the Soviet Union and the Nazis. Indeed, the trailer goes through some length to highlight the heroism of the Russian army, such as a tank commander who caresses a photograph of his family before hoisting himself above the turret to command his forces.
The free-to-play WWII MMO was recently released on the PlayStation Network in North America, with plans for cross-platform compatibility with the PC and PS4. Before that, an expansion pack titled Ground Forces was put out, featuring a host of new tanks and assorted land-based units.
