Originally developed for Windows and Mac in 2019, Radio Commander will be released as a new mobile game title on July 30th. The game will be by the same developer, Serious Sim, and publisher, Games Operators, and will be available for download on iOS and Android devices. In addition, both the developer and publisher seem to be preparing the game to be “good as possible” – stated on Radio Commander Twitter post – so there is much to look forward to. Luckily, Serious Sim produced a three-minute introduction on what the game will look like before the premiere.
For those who prefer to read, Radio Commander is a unique Real-Time Strategy (RTS) game that will immerse players back to the Vietnam War (1965-68). Within the game, players will decide their next moves directly based on the various scenarios and dialogues provided through a radio. As the radio commander, they are given situational reports provided from the troops on the battlefield, place players’ judgments to the test, and direct them to the next location/action. While a decision may seem inconsequential, another decision may result in a morally ambiguous conflict in the next that may be irreversible.
Additionally, there are various other factors to consider during the decision-making process. From understanding terrain structures to climates unique to Vietnam, the various scenarios in Radio Commander will test players’ knowledge and ability within an accurately portrayed simulation. Even if players regret their original decision, they can safely return to the scenario and decide a different option for a different outcome. The game, therefore, explores the details of American history and the player’s decision-making process through unforeseen situations.
