Upcoming FPS Overkill’s The Walking Dead Gets its First Trailer

Earlier today, developer Overkill Software shared its first trailer for Overkill’s The Walking Dead. The co-op FPS was first announced back in 2014, and has had its release delayed multiple times during the development period before its current due date sometime in the fall of 2018. The trailer offers a first look at one of the game’s four playable characters, a former architect named Aidan.

The game is set in the Walking Dead Universe’s canon of Washington, D.C. and created with the approval of Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. To accompany the trailer’s release, publisher Starbreeze hosted a livestream on its Twitch channel with Kirkman and members of Overkill, who shared that the game would expand on TWD‘s universe as players explore the D.C. area and learn about the government’s role in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse. The full Twitch stream is embedded below.

Gameplay will see players building up a base camp and taking out hordes of zombies. “Each character has their own Special Abilities, Skill Trees, Squad Roles, Play Styles and Story Arcs, but teamwork is paramount,” Overkill shared on the game’s site. “The action is close-up and intense: take out enemies carefully with silent melee attack or go in guns blazing with your choice of each class firearms. You need to be able to improvise as nothing is certain and a horde of walkers is always right around the corner.”

Overkill’s The Walking Dead will be available for PC (via Steam), Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
