Indie game studio CONICAL today announced it has raised $1.4 million NZD in seed investment to develop its upcoming action-adventure RPG game Fairy Catcher which combines magic, exploration, and fast-paced combat. It will bring forth a creature collection adventure similar to the popular Pokémon franchise, along with fantasy genre tropes from The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
Fairy Catcher was introduced as an idea back in 2021 when CONICAL’s Facebook account shared photos and information about their upcoming game. The premise is that players can travel back and forth between the human realm and the Fae-lands with the goal of returning fairies to their original homeworld. On the way, players will have to defeat the tyrant threat which has invaded the whimsical land of the fairies. According to previous posts, players can become a Ranger, Wizard, or Fairyologist to form bonds with fairies and magical creatures to fight alongside them. The first post about Fairy Catcher illustrated concept art on the cover of a Nintendo Switch game case, as CONICAL declared that “We are selling an adventure, an escape into a fantasy world and a great story. Our goal is to package this excitement as a digital product our target audience can download on thriving platforms such as Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PS5 and Steam.”
CONICAL opens an investment opportunity that invites stakeholders to aid in developing Fairy Catcher. Thanks to these stakeholders, CONICAL can showcase its technical capability and unique gaming experience. “Our aim is to use this vertical slice as a demo for publishers and gaming investors by the end of 2022,” says Alejandro Davila, Director of CONICAL. Davila had founded CONICAL in 2016, after creating New Zealand’s first virtual reality movie “The Green Fairy.” This project was well received in his country and proved to break new ground in immersive storytelling. Ankit Sehgal led the investment strategy, supporting CONICAL since it was founded. He leads the investment strategy and commercials for the fundraising across both equity crowdfunding and wholesale investment.
Global investor Konstantin Koos led the large sum of investment at the time of the press release, which translates into nearly $1 million USD. Not only is Mr. Koos a Best-Selling Author and entrepreneur, but he is a hard-core gamer deeply passionate about the metaverse and the world of crypto with an extensive portfolio of investments in decentralized finance. Now, he has joined CONICAL as a core team member engaged in the company’s day-to-day activities. Those interested in the future of CONICAL’s Fairy Catcher will have to stay tuned for the now funded vertical slice, which does not yet have details released on when it will become available.
