Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege has been a hit since its release in December of 2015, reaching over 20 million users last year, as well as exceeding 25 million players since then. With every popular game comes the inevitable toxic part of community, and according to a recent Reddit post, Ubisoft will now be cracking down on these toxic players by banning people who use homophobic or racist slurs and hate speech.
Epi, an Ubisoft community developer, made the post on the Rainbow 6 Subreddit laying out the future plan that Ubisoft will use to tackle these kinds of toxic players and incidents. Bans for players that fall under this behavior will receive a 2 day ban, 7 day ban, 15 day ban, or, in the most serious or extensive cases, a permanent ban. According to Ubisoft, the company “will be tracking the frequency at which language that violates the Code of Conduct is used by individual players, and will apply the appropriate ban on a case-by-case basis.”
In addition, Rainbow Six Siege‘s code of conduct has been updated to make note of these incoming changes. On the code of conduct page, an updated section goes into slight detail as to what infractions may cause a ban.
Any language or content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, sexist, ethically offensive or constituting harassment is forbidden.
While a player is banned, they will not be able to access online features with their game. Before a player is banned, however, they will be notified of their unacceptable behavior in an effort to give the player a chance to correct their actions. After further infractions, bans will be handed out to those that continue to be toxic within the community.
These implementations are planned to go into affect for the PC version of Rainbow Six Siege sometime this week. With it, there will be a slightly updated report system that will reflect these upcoming changes. The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are subject to Microsoft’s and Sony’s online code of conduct, and ban users at their own discretion.
