Actually, Diablo III is Coming to Switch, Sources Claim

It’s been a roller coaster of a week for Blizzard and Diablo fans. Last Tuesday, Blizzard’s official Twitter account posted a cryptic tweet featuring someone “switching” a Diablo nightlight on and off, setting off a chain reaction of speculation throughout the community, many of which believed this to be evidence of a Nintendo Switch port of Diablo III. However, on Friday, Blizzard themselves came out to say that they had “nothing to announce” regarding said project.

But while the developer may be attempting to quell the rumors, Eurogamer seems to think that this port is indeed a reality. According to “sources with knowledge of the project,” Blizzard is currently developing a Diablo IIport for the Switch. While there’s no word on whether the two DLC expansions, Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer, will be included, the publication appears to be firm in its conviction that the game is a reality.

Blizzard saying there’s “nothing to announce” does leave the door open for the project to actually exist—after all, it’s not really a denial that there’s anything in production. It simply notes that the announcement isn’t ready yet. The sources seem to corroborate this, as Eurogamer claims “they were surprised to see it, as the game’s reveal remains several months off.” And though much of this speculation should be taken with a healthy amount of salt, Eurogamer has proven to have worthwhile insider knowledge in the past. After all, the publication had accurate details of the Nintendo Switch hardware back in July 2016, when it was still referred to as the Nintendo NX.

Whether intentional or not, Blizzard has opened the floodgates, and they will likely have many questions to answer regarding a Diablo III port in the future. And, if Eurogamer really is correct in their claims, fans will eventually be very happy with the answers.
