Ubisoft released a new video to promote the upcoming South Park game, South Park: The Fractured but Whole. The video showcases product that is a parody of the popular virtual reality apparatus, the Oculus Rift. The product in the video, the Nosulus Rift, essentially serves the function of allowing the player to smell the farts that take place in South Park: The Fractured but Whole. South Park: The Fractured but Whole is the “first Nosulus Rift compatible game.”
The video itself is a parody of the incredibly formulaic way in which many tech companies promote their products. They show off the inspiration for the product, the process for creating said product, and the eventual finished product, all set to what is or at least sounds like royalty free music.
The video begins with someone calling the Nosulus Rift the “best immersive experience ever” followed by Ubisoft Senior Producer Jason Schroeder talking a bit about South Park: The Fractured but Whole. Schroeder says, in his portion of the video, “In South Park: The Fractured but Whole you are playing the new kid in town, the hero and one of your special abilities is really the power of your ass. The only way to really help people experience that strength is to really make sure that they can feel it, and that means getting really close.” The video then goes into the collaborative process for creating the Nosulus Rift, which was created with the help of Japanese Innovation and Design Consultant, Nakata Tuobashi and the “Nose” Jurgen Bischoff. The device itself was designed by Tuobashi and his team while Bischoff was tasked with replicating the smell of a fart which he did by smelling thousands of farts before creating his synthesized “Fartgrance.”
The end of the video says that the Nosulus Rift will be making its world premiere at Gamescom 2016, which will take place from August 17th to August 21st. On the website created for the Nosulus Rift, people attending the conference are invited to experience the Nosulus Rift.
South Park: The Fractured but Whole is going to be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on December 6th. The trailer for the Nosulus Rift can be viewed below (NSFW).
