Although only three months into 2022, many different games have taken the world by storm. Wordle, Genshin Impact and Elden Ring all exploded onto the scene and became some of the most discussed topics across Twitter. Over the first three months of the year, Twitter has documented the most talked about games on their platform across the world and announced the ten most popular.
Coming in first for the most talked about game in the first quarter was Genshin Impact. The first spot may seem surprising but it has consistently been discussed for the entire first quarter of this year. Genshin Impact is followed closely by Wordle. Wordle became very popular early in the year and was eventually purchased by The New York Times. Although the game is not as discussed compared to earlier in the year, Wordle is still one of the most popular games available.
Coming in third was Ensemble Stars. Ensemble Stars is a Japanese game based on rhythm and music. Despite being released in 2015, Ensemble Stars is still one of the most played games across the world. Following Ensemble Stars is Apex Legends for the fourth most talked about game on Twitter. Apex Legends is one of the most well-known U.S. battle royale games and has been releasing new modes and characters throughout 2022. Rounding out the top 5 most discussed games on Twitter was Final Fantasy. The sixteenth installment of Final Fantasy will be coming in June 2022 and has raised a lot of attention across the gaming world.
Coming in at sixth is Sekai Project (Hatsune Miku). Hatsune Miku is similar to Ensemble Stars since it is also a Japanese rhythm and music game. Surprisingly, Elden Ring was only the seventh most discussed game on Twitter for the first quarter. Elden Ring released on February 24 and had one of the most popular releases of all time. The game is consistently talked about and would likely have been higher if it was released earlier in the year.
The eighth most talked about game is Fate/Grand Order, which is a role-playing game released in 2015. The game is very popular in Japan and has been growing in popularity for years. Finally, the list is rounded out by Knives Out and Minecraft. Knives Out is a popular battle royale game for mobile devices that is very similar to Fortnite. Finally, Minecraft is one of the most popular franchises of all time. Players are able to build and create whole worlds in different modes where they can survive on their own or even compete against other players.
