Geoff Keighley put on another strong show with a plethora of great moments, reveals, and announcements that caught many by surprise.  There were also plenty of awards given away which you can check out all the winners of here. Today, we are going to look at the Top 10 game announcements that happened during The Game Awards 2022.

10. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Starting off our list is the game that has had a big turnaround this year with Cyberpunk 2077. During the event, CD Projekt Red showed a first look at the game’s big upcoming expansion Phantom Liberty. The expansion takes place in a new area of Night City called Dogtown. It will also see the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand. However, the biggest reveal during the trailer is that actor Idris Elba will star in the expansion as Solomon Reed, noted as the only person you can trust, thus he will be a major character players interact with throughout the expansion. Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is set to release at some point in 2023.

9. Street Fighter VI

To end the preshow to The Game Awards, Capcom unveiled a new trailer for the newest entry in their hit franchise Street Fighter VI. The new trailer revealed 4 characters joining the roster with 1 returning character and 3 new characters. First, the returning character is the beloved Dee Jay. The 3 new characters are named Manon, Marisa, and JP. Each of these new characters are striking different from other characters and each have their own stylish movesets for players to learn. The biggest news though came at the end of trailer with an official release date for the game being revealed as June 2, 2023.

8. Final Fantasy XVI

The final announcement of The Game Awards 2022 wasn’t a new game, but another look at one of next year’s most anticipated games in Final Fantasy XVI. Producer Naoki Yoshida, affectionately called Yoshi-P, appeared on stage to reveal a new trailer which focuses on the main character’s thirst for revenge. The trailer showcased more gameplay than we’ve before and gave some more hints at the story. There were plenty of moments that showed off the main characters engaging the Eikons in battle. However, the biggest news came at the end as the official release date was finally revealed as June 23, 2023.

7. Earthblade

Up next, is the newest game from the creator of Celeste, Maddy Thorson. Called Earthblade, the game was revealed with a beautiful trailer that focused on gameplay as the trailer went through a one shot of a massive level as the player character appears throughout. Not much was shown of the story, but the game appears to be a Metroidvania unlike Celeste. It will be interesting to see if the game will be as difficult though. Unfortunately, we will be waiting for awhile for the game as it is set to release in 2024.

6.  Blue Protocol

Next up is a new game from Bandai Namco and Amazon Games called Blue Protocol. The game is a free-to-play MMORPG that has a stylish anime art style. Though, not much was shown the game looks to be challenging the hit game Genshin Impact in the free-to-play MMO market. The game is set to have deep character customization for players as gameplay will be deep enough to fit any playstyle. We’re sure to find out more in the coming year as Blue Protocol is set to release at some point in 2023.

5. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

We knew this would be at The Game Awards this year and it didn’t disappoint. Announced earlier this, Respawn officially showed off gameplay for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The gameplay looks to have been improved immensely from the first game with Cal now having a variety of new abilities to use. It looks like Cal will even be getting a new lightsaber at some point during the game as well. Not much was shown of the story itself, but it appears to pick up not long after the events of the first game. Fans won’t have to wait long though as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is set to release on March 17, 2023.

4. Judas

Finally, Ken Levine, the man behind Bioshock, and Ghost Story unveiled his next game aptly titled Judas. From the trailer, the game definitely takes inspiration from the Bioshock series. The enemies and environments are reminiscent of the political world Levine is known for. Even the combat system of one hand having a weapon and the other having a special ability is very similar to the Bioshock games. The tagline of “Fix what you broke.”  gives hints that the story may revolve around the main character causing the world of the game to be like it is now. Unfortunately, it may be awhile before we see the game again as there is no release window for the game.

3. Death Stranding 2

Hideo Kojima doesn’t disappoint as he made an appearance during the show to unveil his next game. The game is Death Stranding 2 (though currently a working title).  The game looks to be a direct sequel to the previous game taking place a number of years later. The game sees the return of Norman Reedus as an older Sam Bridges, Lea Seydoux as Fragile, as well as Troy Baker (though it’s unknown if he is the same character as he was in the last game). The game will also star Elle Fanning and Shioli Katsuna in unknown roles. Kojima did state that the trailer has tons of hints and easter eggs for people to discover. Unfortunately, there was no news on a release date, but the game will release exclusively on PlayStation 5.

2. Hades II

The first official reveal of The Game Awards 2022 was the next game from Supergiant Games in Hades II. The game is the first sequel that the studio has ever worked on, and it makes perfect sense that Hades would be the game to get a sequel as it was a massive hit when it released in 2021. The trailer showed off a new main character as well as different Greek gods that will grant the player powers and abilities to use during their trek through the underworld. The trailer also teased that Chronos will be the main antagonist this time around. Players won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the sequel when it enters early access at some point next year.

1. Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon

While FromSoftware was busy winning awards such as Game of the Year for Elden Ring. That didn’t stop them from unveiling their next game in a returned to one of their oldest franchises with the next entry in the Armored Core series. Titled Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, the game was revealed with an absolutely stunning cinematic trailer that captivated the entire audience. Though no gameplay was shown, many fans assume it will be a “mecha souls” game similar to the studio’s hit style of hardcore gameplay they’ve been known for over the past decade. The biggest surprise is that the game isn’t even that far off as it is set to release at some point in 2023.
