They Are Billions, the steampunk zombie survival real-time strategy game, has added something big to version 0.9. Infected Giants now spawn in the game on the survival mode’s higher difficulties, and a new difficulty mode has been added as well.
They Are Billions is a real-time strategy game released into Early Access in December last year. The game gives players the task of building a colony of apocalypse survivors and defending it against swarms of zombies. The player has to manage resources and recruit soldiers while expanding their base by clearing out static zombie spawns. Complicating things are occasional hordes of zombies that spawn on the map’s edges and try to overrun the base. The game only has a survival mode so far, but there are plans for a single player campaign.
Version 0.9 add the Infected Giant, an extremely deadly new type of unit that only spawns on Challenging difficulty or above. These humongous zombies spawn pre-spawned when a map is created, but they only wander the edges of the map, and are fully visible on the mini-map. They’re incredibly powerful and can crush down anything in their paths, zombies included, but they thankfully are completely deaf and have poor eyesight, so they won’t come charging at your base if you get into a heated gunfight. However, if they aren’t killed by the time the final horde rolls in, they’ll gladly join in the fun, so it’s a good idea to kill them on your own terms when the horde isn’t massed at your walls.
The new version also adds a brand new difficulty setting. Nightmare difficulty adds 30% more zombies compared to Brutal difficulty and spawns three Infected Giants. Those who complete a map on this nightmarish difficulty will get 800% more points to their final score.
