With each month that another of these lists are curated, the harder it is to write an intro paragraph talking about how many games came out and how much each one was enjoyed, but it still has to get shrunk down. There are times when the desire to make a ‘Honorary Mention’ or a longer list is quite strong. But, being vigilant, each list remains to be a specific amount of games. So, MXDWN’s Top 10 Mobile Games of June 2019 is finally here! Let’s begin!
#10. Polyswirl
Spiel Studios has brought forth a very unique and honestly pretty casual puzzle game this month. Polyswirl is a combo of 2D and 3D planes where there are several shapes and players have to find the right angle for them to create an image. Swirling from left and right, up and down, and full 360 degrees. Calming, a little challenging at times, but a great way to try and see puzzle from a new perspective. That, and with a cool AR feature, you can ‘hang’ these beautiful geometric art pieces on your wall.

#9. Bad Roads GO
If you’ve ever been off-roading (or live on a dirt road), you that sometimes driving smoothly is almost nigh impossible. And while sometimes there’s no escape from these terrible road situations, there is a “practice run” with Laurent Bakowski’s Bad Roads GO. This little side-scrolling arcade game has player drive through some pretty rough terrain all the while trying to balance a few boxes, that haven’t been properly contained, from falling off and exploding on the ground. With several different backgrounds and terrains to go through (forest, desert, jungle, and more), with several different cars to try out (like the boogie bus), this little game has some good laughs and excellent balancing skills.

#8. Knights of Tartarus
In Knights of Tartarus evil has taken over the kingdom! And it’s up to you, a small knight, to save the day. But there’s a problem… you’ve woken up and have forgotten everything. Who you are, how you got here, who this random rival of yours is, and what your quest is. But all is not lost, as you enter the monster realm of Tartarus and begin to learn from the monsters you’re defeating. You can learn moves, skills, spells, and craft all along the way to help you on your journey to defeat a legendary order of knights. Solve puzzles, defeat bosses, and pet a cute dog, in this Gameboy-stylized adventure game developed by Crescent Moon Games.

#7. Human: Fall Flat
This PC physics breaking classic has finally come to handheld mobile gaming. Human: Fall Flat, developed by 505 Games is set up like the PC, but has a brand new port for mobile players. Using your body, your hands, and the ability to not properly stand, to make your way through levels of jumping, pushing, pulling, and catapulting to get to where you need to go. Fall flat at the end of the level to move onto the next one. The mobile version does allow for multiplayer as well, so your friends can come in to either help or sabotage you to get to the next section. All the while laughing at the ragdoll bodies of these unique little characters.

#6. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite!
Niantic Inc returns with another outdoor adventure in the palm of your hand, in the highly anticipated Harry Potter: Wizards Unite! This game has been covered on MXDWN before, and for good reason. It has definitely lived up to the hype with it’s ARG components that had gotten popular with Niantic’s previous game Pokemon GO! However, instead of Pokemon, it’s the wizarding world of Harry Potter. In Wizards Unite! Players take on the roll of themselves, as they have to venture forth outside in the hunt for magical creatures, friends, and foes alike. Using spells to help contain or harm, all in the name to help the Ministry of Magic reclaim all that’s been lost. And what better time to have it come out, that the first month of summer, getting players outside and into the world. Now with just a little more magic.

#5. Minit
Having originally come out in 2018 on PC, Minit is a fast-paced little adventure game, now ported for mobile devices. Minit tells the story of a world that’s stuck in a cure of 60-second days. Once those 60 seconds are up, the next day begins. You play as a little adventurer who ventures outside of the comfort of its home, in search of an answer to the curse. Of course, you only have 60 seconds per day to go out and seek everything you need. Each day, there’s something new added that adds to your quest, only taking up more of what little time you have. Solve puzzles, fight monsters, and over all try to lift the 60-second day curse from your home life.

#4. Serial Cleaner!
The 70’s are back, baby! And this funky little game is here to how that stache’s, large collars, and bell-bottom jeans are here to stay. In Serial Cleaner! Players take on the roll of a professional cleaner. And we’re talking crime scene cleaner. A cleaner for the mob. Hide incriminating evidence, clean up blood stains and anything grody, and snag the body and run, all while sneaking around and hiding from the fuzz. After all, you don’t work for the man, so getting spotted means the whole operation is busted. The levels get harder the more you play, so best be on your toes for this groovy number.

#3. Layton: The Diabolical Box HD
The Professor Layton series has been around since 2007, first showing up on the Nintendo DS. It’s entire premise was that the world ran on puzzles (really, any person that you go up to has a puzzle, how often is that seen in real life?), and that puzzles could solve any mystery. The Diabolical Box had first come out in 2007, only nine months after the first installment. And it told the story of Professor Layton and his apprentice Luke, as they try to solve the mystery behind the deadly Elysian Box. There, they find themselves in a ghost town that has even more mysteries surrounding it. Completely remastered for mobile devices, this is a familiar tune that’s welcomed on this list.

#2. Fury Survival: Pixel Z
There’s something about beating up zombies that’s cathartic. And when there’s several waves of zombies coming at you, it’s even more so. In Fury Survival: Pixel Z, the world has been overtaken by the Z-virus in a matter of days. You play as a survivor in all of this mess, trying to head home from the warehouse you work in. But when there’s zombies and zombie-piloted mechs blocking your path, the only thing left to do is fight. Fight your way through each level as you make your way to safety. From there, you can help build a camp and have it become sustainable. And, once things are set, you can gear up and head out once more to search for your missing daughter and wife, who hopefully haven’t been turned by the Z-Virus.

#1. Lovecraft’s Untold Stories
Ever want to experience the cosmic horrors? Good. Because in Blini Games’ Lovecraft’s Untold Stories, you can. Players take on the role of one of five characters in the search for the occult and, eventually, the Great Old Ones. The stories in this game are completely based off of the written tales of H.P. Lovecraft. So lots of horror, lots of psychological horror, lots of cosmic horror, a monster for every occasion, decisions that affect your sanity, and did I say there was horror in this game too?
There are five playable characters; the detective, the thief, the witch, the professor, and the ghoul. For each of the five characters, there’s a new story, a new playstyle, and a new mystery, and a different Great Old One. But to reach the Great Old One, enough information needs to be found, from old papers scattered around, to people you can talk to, to old tomes that can be read.But beware, if not enough information is found, the mere presence of these old gods will drive you insane.
With great atmosphere and some deep mythos, Lovecraft’s Untold Stories receives the top most recommended game of June.
