Summer Games Done Quick is the summertime event for the charity fundraiser Games Done Quick. This year’s event, held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, ran from June 24 to June 30 and had massive schedule of video game speedruns to raise money for Doctors Without Borders. This year, the organization set another best, raising over 3 million dollars ($3,006,927.00 exactly) for the charity. The summer iteration of the Games Done Quick events began in 2011, raising $21,000 for the Organisation for Autism Research. Each year, the annual event raised more and more money for charity, sticking with Doctors Without Borders since 2013. Last year, the event raised whopping $2 million for the organization, only to be beaten once again by this year’s record-setting numbers. SGDQ2019 saw almost 51,000 donors averaging just under $60 each, and a staggering solo donation of $341,000! Summer Games Done Quick 2019 has now raised more money in a single event than all past Games Done Quick events.
The event featured speedruns, challenges, and races for games across many genres, from classics such as Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Metal Slug III, to newer games like Pokémon: Let’s Go! and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Games Done Quick will return only a few months from now with Games Done Quick Express, going from September 27-29 at TwitchCon in San Diego, California. After that, the organization returns once again for Awesome Games Done Quick from January 5-12 in Orlando, Florida. Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 will also mark the event’s 10 year anniversary.
