Titled “Journey to Batuu”, The Sims 4 is receiving a Star Wars-themed expansion pack. The initial trailer for the expansion pack was revealed in the virtual-only Gamescom 2020 presentation on Thursday and is set to bring a lot of costumes, items, and characters to the game. As of now, the expansion pack is set to release on PC, PS4, iOS, and Xbox One on September 8th.
This expansion pack was claimed to be inspired by the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area in Disney Land and Disney World. As said by Douglas Reily, VP of Lucasfilms Games said in a recent interview about the pack (which can be seen in the initial announcement),
We loved the idea of giving players the opportunity to tell the Star Wars story, and The Sims’ open-ended form of storytelling is the perfect platform to do so. Our fans are always looking for new ways to immerse themselves into the Star Wars galaxy, and we hope The Sims will provide that in an unexpectedly new and exciting way, where they’ll influence the world of Batuu and find their destiny in the galaxy as they see fit.
As seen in the trailer, many aspects of the Star Wars universe can be seen in the gam. Players are able to wield their own lightsaber, fight droids, and even interact with notable characters such as Kylo Ren and Rey. Apart from a usual good guy story, players will also have the ability to choose which side they want to support between the First Order and the Hondo Ohnaka.
However, many fans had mixed reactions to the news of the expansion pack. Many fans complained that the news of a Star Wars-themed pack was boring, and said that they were expecting something with more creativity when hinted with the announcement. Other fans say that the developers have not been listening to their suggestions and complaints about the current game (which they have been known to in the past), saying that it needed to be updated. Even fans on Youtube let their opinions be known about the upcoming pack, with the trailer first receiving a 22,000 to 43,000 like to dislike ratio. As of now, the ration between likes and dislikes has grown with many comments expressing their dissatisfaction with the announcement.
