The Posthumous Investigation, is a game where, as its name states, an investigation is done of the deceased by the living. The original game by Mother Gaia Studio, and published by CriticalLeap & Infini Fun was released back in March with good success and glowing reviews. After its PC Launch success, it gained a Nintendo Switch Release date of September 17th, to commemorate its latest release, there was a Launch Trailer released via Game Trailers. In it, you’re the unlucky detective who has to undertake the mystery of “Braskubras” as he’s noted in the trailer, and his unusual passing.
Starting off with the bible quote “Thou shall not kill” the trailer evokes religious imagery from the beginning, which continues as Christ the redeemer is the first view of the city of the game: “Rio de Janeiro 1937.” In Black and White Cartoon form, Rio’s bouncy and beautiful with various npc’s sprawling around, this quiet silence, is offset by the narrator, who’s now revealed as Braskubras, explaining his wants to the detective, who is the playable character. The detective questions the deceased’s relatives, and other characters as he tries to solve the case, each person questioned has different motives and relationships with Braskubras.
While searching, there’s a hidden island amidst a fog, which might lead to some answers and a “RECIPE” that contains quite a lot of “Camphor,” and the equally dangerous “Laudanum.” After this clue, the detective roams around Rio, meeting an angry looking man who punches him. The detective questions more people, goes through lock breaking mini games, clue pieces, city locations such as a bar and lighthouse, as he explores all parts of town in order to gain answers. At the end of it all, the detective looks between a long list of prospective Unsubs, all with various descriptors trying to succeed.
