The Nintendo Switch Almost Even With The Xbox One In Ubisoft Sales

Ubisoft recently showed a slideshow containing a breakdown of the company’s latest earnings report. It stated that the Playstation 4 led the way holding a 31 percent share for the last period. But what the company didn’t expect was that Nintendo Switch had a great start accounting for a total of 19 percent of total sales revenue for Ubisoft during this last period. Thats pretty impressive considering the fact that that is just 1 percentage point shy of the Xbox One’s sales which has been on the market considerably longer and has more titles on it than the Switch does currently.

The Switch has sold 7.63 million units across the world since September. We don’t currently know how many units the Xbox One has sold due to the fact that Microsoft no longer shares Xbox One sales numbers, but it is safe to say that it has sold more than the Nintendo Switch. During the earnings call Ubisoft CFO Alain Martinez stated that the Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, a title exclusive to the Switch passed initial expectations in sales and that it should have a “stronger than usual” sales tail than usual as more people are able to get their hands on the console.

Also, Ubisoft management confirmed that they will indeed be releasing more titles for the Switch next year. CEO Yves Guillemot stated that “We will have some Switch games next year,” and added that the company is “very happy” with Switch sales. In addition to these numbers within the earnings report, Ubisoft also said that Assassin’s Creed: Origins are double that of the last entry into the series, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, when looking at the amount of units sold over their first 10 days after release. Origins is off to such a great start that CEO Yves Guillemot declared at the post earning conference that the Assassin’s Creed series is “officially back.”
