After it was announced to the public that a majority of the traditionally planned DLC for Final Fantasy XV was going to be set aside, fans were disappointed to say the very least. While the fifteenth major title in the franchise was met with mixed emotions from longtime players, it was still expected that the DLC would be released according to the schedule that had been originally planned. Lately, Square Enix’s DLC for the game has ranged in other content that is not actually playable, but does provide a closer look into the lore and characters of the newest characters and kingdom in the series. The latest tease of this “content” is an upcoming book named Final Fantasy XV – The Dawn of the Future.

To start, the game did have gaming content DLC in Multiplayer Comrades, which was released in December. The standalone version of the game brought different bosses and weapons and was provided to the owners of the previous Comrades version for free. Final Fantasy XV then released two separate teasers for a short anime film that were first shown in the middle of December and January. The anime, Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn, is still being set for a March release of this year.

The next step in this game’s story was then announced a couple of days ago from the Final Fantasy team with Dawn of the Future. The book centers on the stories of Arden, Alnea, and a host of other characters. Perhaps the scrapping of the other DLCs served as inspiration for the developers to still bring the stories of XV’s world to fans even if they were unable to provide it in a traditional gaming format. The Dawn of the Future was initially supposed to be a DLC that would come to the game in four episodes. With that plan out the window, the book can still provide stories of the kingdom and will be available for purchase April 25.
