The last mainline Gears of War title, Gears 5 came out in 2019. Since then, a mobile spin-off, a turn-based strategy spin-off, and the Hivebusters single-player DLC was released. There hasn’t been any word on the next title, but that may change soon. According to multiple reports, we could be getting the first look at the next Gears in the Summer.
During a guest appearance of the latest episode of the Kinda Funny Xcast, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb teased that something Gears 6-related will be happening this Summer. This came following host Parris Lilly’s prediction about when we might see something Gears-related.
“When they showed the [Marvel 1943 trailer] in Unreal Engine 5 during GDC, I jokingly tweeted ‘imagine what Gears 6’ would look like in Unreal 5,” Lilly said, “because it looked so good.
“And then somebody from The Coalition made a cryptic little subtweet under me about that, which perked my ears on that. So my conspiracy theory is that you do tease it this year, and then it’s probably a launch game for next-gen. That seems to make sense to me.”
Following Lilly’s prediction, Grubb added “I will say, I’ve heard some stuff might be happening with Gears 6 this summer, so I think that tease sounds about right to me, Parris. That seems like what we can expect.”
After the episode went live, The Verge’s Tom Warren corroborated Grubb’s statement with a simple statement “Correct.”
Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Xbox Games Showcase is set to return in June so Gears fans may not have to wait long to see what’s next for the franchise.
