The Last of Us Fixed for PS4 Pro

Good news for PS4 Pro owners! Some of the games that have been having problems on the new console–mainly, running at a lower performance level than standard PS4 hardware during intense gameplay–are finally getting fixed. One of the higher profile games plagued by framerate drop on the Pro–The Last of Us–has just been fixed by its developer, Naughty Dog. According to Eurogamer, the new 1.08 update does fix the issue with PS4 Pro’s 4K 60fps mode, but there is a bit of a tradeoff.

Aliasing is now much more noticeable, and some of the high quality shadows start to glitch from time to time. It also seems Naughty Dog removed super-sampling from the 1080p mode. Basically, this means that Pro players who don’t own a 4k TV don’t get access to any of the improvements made to the higher resolution mode. On the bright side, the new update includes a locked 1080p60 mode, probably as a way to replace the loss of super-sampling. Though this mode is great, it has still left many Pro players frustrated and confused as to why super-sampling was removed as an option for 1080p users, especially since multiple Pro implementations are already contained in the game.

Developers and Sony need to continue to work on fixing these problems, but the improvements made on these and other games–including Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Mantis Burn Racing and Battlefield 1, who’s latest “Giant’s Shadow” update includes a patch that fixes previous issues with blurry maps and framerate drops–are a welcome sign of progress.
