The Game Awards 2018 To Have More Than 10 New Game Announcements

Marketing for the Game Awards is in full swing as the annual celebration of all things gaming is just around the corner. Aside from a record-breaking 40+ streaming platforms announced for the award show, creator Geoff Keighley has also promised the biggest lineup of exclusive reveals in the show’s history. Today, his social media account disclosed that more than 10 major announcements will be made at this year’s Game Awards, with updates to previously shown games as well. For an event meant to honor the achievements of the year 2018, that is a staggering number of reveals, an emphatic statement that acknowledges the prestige of the past and underscores the promising light of the industry’s future.

In the somewhat ambiguous tweet, alongside an embedded video of Keighley delineating the highlights of this year’s grand show, the text subtly mentions “teases in the days to come.” This all but confirms the previously hinted at Alien: Blackout reveal at the show this year, and also implies that additional clues may be strewn throughout these cryptic social media messages in the days leading up to the actual event.

On the production side of things, it seems that they’ve spared no expenses, with this year being the fifth show. “This year is all about expanding what we do well,” Keighley says in the video. “And actually, it’s a little intimidating because we got such a great response to last year’s show.” Bringing back the ever-popular Game Awards Orchestra, the event planners have tapped BAFTA and Emmy-nominated, Grammy-award winning composer Lorne Balfe as the “Music Director and conductor of the Game Awards.” Expanded outreach is also a core tenet of this year’s program, with the aforementioned increase in participating platforms as well as new voting methods across various services in order to bolster fan voting and audience engagement.

With the cancellation of this year’s PSX, the stage has been set for the Game Awards to shine even more this time around. Armed with a plethora of breaking industry reveals, high production value, and a multitude of distributive channels for live content dissemination, Geoff Keighley’s gaming extravaganza should be a sight to behold.

The Gaming Awards 2018 will be available to stream on December 6, 2018.
