TellTale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season Set to Finish Exclusively on the Epic Games Store

Earlier today, Skybound Games announced that the company has partnered with Epic Games to bring the remaining episodes of TellTale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season exclusively to the Epic Games Store on PC. Following the announcement, the first two episodes of the season will also be added to the online storefront. While the remaining episodes will be released exclusively on the Epic Games Store, consumers who purchased the season pass via a different storefront on PC will still be able to receive the new episodes from the original providers. The episodes are still set to be released on consoles simultaneously.

This news comes months after Skybound Games came in to finish the game after the tumultuous end of TellTale Games earlier this year. Skybound also made the effort to bring in members of the original TellTale team to finish the game. In a joint statement by Skybound Games CEO Ian Howe and president of interactive Dan Murray, the duo stated:

We’re excited to work together on their latest transformative event with the launch of the Epic Games Store. Epic stepped up to the plate immediately to work with us in order to bring the original team back together and ensure fans will receive the completed season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season.

Gaining this game as an exclusive is also a major get for Epic Games after they launched the Epic Games Store earlier this month. The game joins the likes of Supergiant’s Hades and thatgamecompany’s Journey as major exclusives for Epic’s storefront. As the PC digital store war is heating up with Steam and Discord adjusting revenue splits with developers, exclusives may be the deciding factor for the success of these storefronts going forward.

The penultimate third episode of TellTale’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season, Broken Toys, releases on January 15, 2019 on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC. The final episode of the game is planned for release sometime in 2019.
