Tekken 7 Heads To PS4 With VR Support

The Tekken series is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary since first appearing on Playstation consoles back in 1995. In a trailer released earlier today, which heavily pays homage to the 20 years of Tekken on the platform, it was announced that Tekken 7 will be coming to Playstation 4.

This announcement came during Sony’s Paris Games week press conference.  Tekken series Executive Producer Katsuhiro Harada took to the stage to announce the news and debut the trailer. Harada proclaimed that “fans can look forward to a dramatic and over the top progression to the canon storyline.” Special content “sure to please Playstation fans” was also promised by Harada.

When the game makes the leap from arcades to consoles it will be most complete and enhanced version up to date.

Specifically highlighted in the trailer is the new playable character Kazumi Mishima, wife of series main antagonist Heihachi Mishima and grandmother of series main protagonist Jin Kazama. The central plot of the Tekken series revolves around the internal feud between the Mishima clan and is set to be concluded in the latest installment. The origins of Devil Gene and other Tekken mysteries are planned to be revealed as well.

Later in the press conference,  Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan announced the game will contain VR support but no further details were given.

Tekken 7 is being developed by the Tekken Team at Bandai Namco Entertainment in Japan under supervision from Harada who has been with the series since it’s inception. For the first time in the series the game will run under the Unreal Engine 4. Tekken 7 marks the ninth installment in the series.
