Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Surpasses One Million Copies Sold

On June 16th, the newest addition to the collection of TMNT video games was released on various platforms. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a beat-’em-up game that takes on the style of the classic Konami arcade games from the 90s. Developed by Tribute Games and published by DotEmu, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge has caught the attention of many fans and received positive feedback. In fact, feedback has been so positive that over one million copies of the game have been sold! Additionally, the game became available on day one of Xbox Pass, which makes the accomplishment more impressive.

This is not the only example of a successful revival game published by DotEmu. Back in April 2020, the Sega series Streets of Rage was revived with a game to continue the trilogy called Streets of Rage 4. Just like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, this is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up game that prioritizes nostalgia for returning fans of the series. Streets of Rage 4 was rated 7/10 by IGN and 9/10 by Nintendo Life, bringing attention back to the original franchise.

One of the strengths of TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is the colorful and retro presentation. Many developers who worked on this game were inspired by fond memories from childhood. As DotEmu CEO Cyrille Imbert mentioned in statement, “TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is the game I dreamed of working on ever since I began watching the original cartoon and funneling coins into the TMNT arcade cabinets as a kid.” Co-Founder of Tribute Games Jean-Francois Major also grew up with the show, stating that he looks forward to watching players discover the easter eggs hidden throughout the game. Overall, the developers put their heart and soul into this passion project.

DotEmu and Tribute Games have said that depending on how well TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge sells, DLC costumes and more features could be added in the future. With the massive sales so far, it is very likely that new content will be added soon. Those who wish to take in on the action can now play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge on Linux, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
