Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond Will be in FIFA 23

One of television’s most famous characters, and teams, will be making their way to the video game scene. EA has announced that Ted Lasso and the fictional AFC Richmond soccer club will be included in their upcoming FIFA 23 when it launches later this month on September 30. The team and Lasso will be completely usable within the game as a functioning and playable team for players to utilize in Career Mode, Kickoff, Online Friendlies, and Online Seasons. Players can select Lasso as a manager in Career Mode, or manage them yourselves by swapping them into the Premier League.

AFC Richmond players Players Roy Kent, Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya and Dani Rojas will all be playable in the game, as well as the fictional stadium Nelson Road. As we already mentioned, you can use Lasso as a manager in Career Mode, but not just for the Richmond team, but for any other team as well. Alternatively, you can also give the reigns of the club to a completely different manager to mix things up. In addition, you can also have your create-a-player play alongside the characters on the Richmond club.

Ted Lasso of course is one of television’s most successful series in recent history, essentially being the flagship show for Apple TV+. The show has garnered critical acclaim from several critics and has established a fan base in the process. Ted Lasso was one of the main frontrunners for the 2022 Critic’s Choice Awards, along with Succession. They also confirmed earlier this year that actress Jodi Balfour will be joining the third season. On top of that, Ted Lasso was also one of the biggest shows heading into the 2022 Primetime Emmy’s in which it ended up winning four awards including Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis and Best Comedy Series for the show itself.

This will also be the final title to bear the FIFA name under the EA banner. Starting in 2023, EA will drop the FIFA brand and instead use EA Sports FC. This was due to EA CEO Andrew Wilson pushing for removal of the brand after both companies seemingly, and publicly, no longer wanted to work with their long-time agreement. Since this is the official last ride with the FIFA name, why not use one of the most famous soccer clubs in the sport’s history for its final outing. FIFA 23 will officially launch next week on September 30 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/Series S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
