Team Asobi Launches New Website, Confirms New Project

One of Sony’s proprietary developers has taken a huge step forward as a major studio. Team Asobi has officially launched their own website, complete with background reels, information about the staff and developers, and list of their developed titles. Speaking of titles, if you go to the About Us section of the site, the developer has some interesting wording at the end of the first paragraph; “We’re currently hard at work on our most ambitious game yet!” This essentially confirms that Team Asobi is working on an unnamed project, which will more than likely be for the PlayStation 5.

Team Asobi is of course most well known for creating and developing Astro’s Playroom, which was a launch title for the PlayStation 5 and was included for anyone who was able to purchase the still hard to find system. Team Asobi is also looking for more developers for this title, specifically an Environment Artist and an Animator. No further information was given about this new title, but considering that they were originally part of the fabled Japan Studio, and that they have also been an integral cog of Sony’s internal process, it’s safe to say that this new project will be something to look forward to.

As we already mentioned, Team Asobi was a part of Japan Studio, the very first development studio created for the sole purpose of developing titles for the PlayStation console line. They released and published numerous classic titles and franchises such as  Ape EscapeLocoRocoPataponGravity RushBloodborne, and the Team ICO games, ICO, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. Earlier this year, the studio was officially shut down, with most of the developers being repurposed into other studios. Team Asobi was spun off into their very own studio, and became a first party developer for the PlayStation brand.
